Dickinson Wright Attorney Coaches Divorcées Through the Emotional Side of Divorce with New Book

Self-help book walks through healing meditations one day at a time; supports legal clarity.

PHOENIX, Ariz., March 17, 2016—A divorce consists of two distinct, difficult journeys: legal dissolution of marriage and emotional healing. Dickinson Wright Attorney Marlene Pontrelli is helping divorcées navigate those journeys simultaneously in her newly released book, Daily Meditations for Healing from Divorce: Discovering the New You (Addicus Books, 2016).

In her book, Pontrelli addresses the emotional side of ending a marriage, and offers daily meditations and uplifting advice to guide the reader toward a new beginning filled with opportunities. The book is formatted to provide a personal meditation for each day of the year, ideally coinciding with the divorcée’s legal proceedings.

“Divorce can be a very traumatic and stressful experience. People are often faced with an arduous legal process, and the emotional toll can make that process even more difficult,” said Pontrelli. “Without emotional healing, it’s hard to handle the legal proceedings rationally. This book encourages individuals to focus on their own well-being every day, and find peace within their new life.”

“It’s so easy to lose yourself in the enormity of the change,” said Ellen Vimmerstedt, a licensed professional counselor and director of Arizona Crisis Specialists. “By taking readers through healing exercises that focus on ‘just one day at a time,’ each day can be better than the last. Ultimately, that’s hope that can transform the divorce process entirely.”

Vimmerstedt also praised the book’s forward-looking perspective. “This book focuses on the positive changes of divorce,” she added. “Divorce may be ending one phase of life, but it also begins a new one. With the right perspective, this new chapter can be the start to a happy and fulfilled life.”

Norm Wakeen, of Phoenix, Arizona, read Pontrelli’s book after he recently went through a divorce with his wife.

“Everything about my divorce was excruciating. I didn’t know how to move on emotionally,” Wakeen recalled. “Marlene’s book got me through my darkest days. The meditations showed me that it was okay to feel the things that I felt, and helped me take my first steps toward a new life. I’m now more confident with myself and more comfortable in my life as a single person.”

With more than 30 years of experience, Marlene Pontrelli has helped hundreds of individuals through the process of divorce. A Member in Dickinson Wright’s Phoenix office, Pontrelli is a certified specialist in family law, including dissolution, post-dissolution, paternity, child custody and child support matters.
