3 PR Tips for New Construction Home Builders

April 26, 2019 the Bradford Group

It’s no secret that both residential and commercial construction is booming in Nashville. People are flocking to the city at an astounding rate – an average of 106 people a day in 2017, according to The Tennessean.

With demand for housing so high, many home builders have rightly seen this rapid population growth as a fantastic opportunity. But it’s hard to stand out from the rest of the pack. If you find you and your company are in a similar situation, here are three PR tips to differentiate you from your competitors.

Scintillating storytelling

Did you start your company at such a young age that many find it unusual that you are successful as you are? Or maybe you’re the third or fourth generation to run your family business that was founded 60 years ago? Whatever your story is, find a way to make it unique and become an expert at telling it.

Compelling anecdotes about your company are one of the easiest ways to spark media interest in you and your story. They give an editor a reason to care enough to set up an interview. They make him want to hear more. From there, they’re a way for media to remember you by, which leads to a stronger rapport. When you make editors and reporters your friends, they’ll come to you when they’re in a pinch and need a source for a story they’re working on.

Stunning social media

Nearly every business you can think of is on social media these days. But that doesn’t mean they’re all using it wisely.

Social media should be more than just a promotional stream of photos – you have to give your followers a reason to follow you. If you’re a residential home builder and every single post is about your homes that are for sale and how much they’re listed for, you’ll eventually lose any followers that aren’t currently in the market for a house – your content isn’t relevant to them.

Instead, think about which types of posts will bring value to your followers. Perhaps you could offer different spring cleaning tips, affordable ways to dress up your outdoor living space or round up the hottest kitchen appliances on the market right now. Then, mix in a promotional post every now and then. They won’t stand out as much if they’re incorporated with beneficial, informative content.

Savvy SEO

Potential customers won’t use your services if they don’t know you exist. It’s imperative your business appears in relevant Google searches, ideally on the first page.

It’s imperative your business appears in relevant Google searches, ideally on the first page.

One way to do this is by purchasing Google AdWords ads, but another, far cheaper way is by implementing a savvy search engine optimization (SEO) plan. The better your SEO, the higher your business will appear in Google search results.

Consistent blogging is one of the easiest ways to boost your SEO. Be sure relevant keywords – terms that people search for when trying to find your services (e.g.: Nashville home builder) – organically appear in the title of your blog, as well as throughout the copy. But be sure not to “keyword stuff.” Find other useful tips here.
