Gaining Experts Their Proper Place on the National Stage: Dickinson Wright (law firm)

Venerable law firm’s lawyers gain national prominence providing expert perspectives on current events

Situation

Established in 1878, Dickinson Wright PLLC is a full-service business law firm headquartered in Detroit, with 17 offices around the country, including two in the Nashville area. Its 425 attorneys work in more than 40 practice areas. The Bradford Group began working with Dickinson Wright’s Nashville office in 2014, focusing on local coverage. Our work with Dickinson Wright expanded in 2016 to include a second Nashville-area office focusing exclusively on health care, and in 2017, we expanded our relationship with the firm to a national level, promoting its work in international trade,  private equity and labor/employment.

Actions

The Bradford Group drew upon Dickinson Wright’s core strength — its knowledgeable and experienced team of lawyers — to repeatedly gain publicity for the firm on a national level. We approached journalists working on topical, time-sensitive stories and offered Dickinson Wright lawyers as expert sources in their respective specialties. This strategy provided a needed resource for journalists working on tight deadlines, while positioning the firm as a go-to source for informed and helpful legal insights.

Results

Over the span of just a few months in 2017, The Bradford Group secured hundreds of prominent placements around the country, including many in national outlets like The New York Times, USA Today, the Wall Street Journal and The New York Times. Several of these stories were picked up sister publications, dramatically increasing their reach. A single Associated Press story on President Trump’s criticism of NAFTA was republished by more than 275 media outlets around the country. Another NAFTA-related story by the Associated Press drew more than 20 placements, including in the Washington Post, the New York Times and Fox Business.
